ULTRA MEGA CATS

 

A dynamic, co-op third-person roguelike shooter. You play as one of the Mega Cats — heavily armed and on a mission to escape corporate captivity while battling hordes of enemies. Fight your way through a series of randomly generated rooms, pulling off impressive acrobatic feats and skill-based maneuvers in a fast-paced environment — either solo or with friends.

I also took part in character design sessions with the visual artist. The range of ideas discussed and how they were reflected in the final designs clearly shows the importance of direct collaboration between conceptual creatives.

 

I had the chance to join VO recording sessions for the cats, both for the game and the trailer. This gave me the opportunity to direct actors, including Roger Clark.

Ultra Mega Cats started out as a completely different game concept. The idea evolved, but the core feline heroes remained — as did the need to create a narrative layer. I built the lore, crafting mythology, world history, characters, and enemies. Because the game features a roguelike loop, one challenge was to justify repeated playthroughs of the same locations and enemies in a way that made narrative sense. Fortunately, the potential of a cyberpunk world filled with anthropomorphic animals is enormous — making the creative process a real pleasure.

 

As part of my work, I also designed a system for generating combat dialogue during co-op gameplay, along with all the lines. The system was built to randomly combine various phrases into final dialogues, allowing for many different configurations that still felt natural.
